It just sounds like it’s over to be honest, he’s only extending the branch of kindness for her to stay out of pity and guilt, but he’s probably already out there on the prowl for girls he actually finds attractive. Sad but true. Even though I agree with you Lou about the kids, I think for the sake of her happiness she should just rip the bandaid off of her sad marriage and get it over with. This lady and her husband clearly aren’t a good match for each other, she’s extremely needy and couldn’t take a hint during 16 years of him trying to covertly express his disinterest by being cold and constantly fighting. Sure he’s a total for not overtly explaining these things much sooner but in my opinion she definitely saw it coming but wanted to make things work regardless which is noble and based. However, life is short and for women ‘the wall’ urgency to find a partner is brutal.
